A swimming pool rebuilt as a koi pond

Plenty of Nashville houses have a pool nobody swims in any more. It still needs chemicals, it still needs covering, and it takes up the best part of the garden doing nothing.

A conversion uses what is already there. The shell becomes the basin, so most of the digging is done, and the depth that made it a poor pool makes it a good home for koi. We set the liner and the rock inside it, build the waterfall at the far end so the sound carries back to the house, run filtration sized for fish rather than swimmers, and plant the margins so the edges soften within a season.

Lighting is worth doing at the same time. The pump runs year round, and once it is dark the waterfall is the only thing in the garden you can see.
